An Introduction
Introduction
The General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) is the independent regulator for pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and registered pharmacies in England, Scotland and Wales. It is the Council’s job to protect, promote and maintain the health, safety and wellbeing of members of the public by upholding standards and public trust in pharmacy. The GPhC has been in existence for more than two years and is continuing to make significant improvements to pharmacy regulation; amongst various initiatives we are making significant changes to the way we regulate pharmacies, moving from a rules-based approach to outcome-focused standards.
The Council protects the public in two main ways – by registering competent professionals to practise pharmacy and by regulating the system for managing and delivering retail pharmacy services.
Our work touches the lives of pharmacy professionals from the day they start their training to when they stop practising and leave the register. The Council plays a key role in making sure that the GPhC is a modern health regulator with a commitment to proportionate and innovative regulation. The Council sets the strategic direction and objectives for the organisation in line with its statutory purpose. The Council:
· monitors the organisation’s performance
· holds the executive to account
· ensures probity
· safeguards the organisation’s assets.
We are currently recruiting for a Chair and 5 Council Members. We welcome individuals from a diverse range of backgrounds who can bring fresh perspectives to the Council. If you feel you have the relevant skills and knowledge to be part of the GPhC at this important time in its development we would be delighted to hear from you.
We do hope you are excited by the challenges this opportunity presents and that you will be motivated to apply.
